    The Best Cashew Butter Substitutes

Need a cashew butter substitute? Whether you don't have it on hand, have a food allergy or sensitivity, or don't like the taste. Below you'll find the 5 best cashew butter alternatives no matter what you're using it for.

    What is Cashew Butter?

Cashew butter is made by pulverizing cashew nuts in a food processor. This results in a creamy, smooth texture and subtly sweet taste. You can easily make homemade cashew butter with just 2 ingredients for a more cost-effective option than storebought.

Use it on banana bread, toast, waffles, or in a savory miso sauce. The uses for this nut butter are endless due to its relatively neutral taste.

    Cashew Butter Substitutes

    1. Peanut Butter

Cashew butter and peanut butter are often interchangeable because of their similarly mildly sweet flavor and texture. However, peanut butter is less expensive and easier to find.

    2. Macadamia Nut Butter

Macadamia nut butter has a buttery and rich flavor with a mostly neutral taste making it a great replacement for cashew butter. However, it's one of the pricier nut butter options.

    3. Walnut Butter

Walnut butter is a great cashew butter alternative because of its creamy texture. Walnuts are a bit sweeter than cashews though, so this substitute works best in sweet recipes. You may want to also reduce the amount of added sugar in the recipe and add more to taste.

    4. Sunflower Butter

Sunflower seed butter is a great nut-free option that has a similar taste to cashew butter and will work in most recipes. Because sunflower seeds are slightly more bitter than cashews, you may need to add a pinch of sugar to balance out the flavor.

    5. Almond Butter

Almond butter has a similar healthy fat content but with a stronger, nuttier flavor. These qualities make almond butter a great substitute when used in smoothies, desserts, or on toast.
