Apple Base

  • 6 medium apples 2-3 varieties, see notes
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

Crisp Topping

  • ½ cup old fashioned oats
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour or substitute
  • cup granulated sugar see notes
  • ¼ cup dairy-free butter or substitute
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. Peel your apples and remove the core before cutting them lengthwise into slices. Add the sliced apples to a large bowl along with the maple syrup, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Mix until everything is evenly coated and then transfer to a greased 8x8 baking dish. Set aside.
  • Add all of the topping ingredients to a bowl and using your hands or a pastry cutter, crumble the mixture together until it resembles pea-sized crumbs.
  • Spread the topping evenly over the apples and bake for 40-50 minutes, or until golden brown. Top with your favorite dairy-free vanilla ice cream and serve warm.
  • Makes 6 servings.

  • Best apples to use. When choosing your apples, opt for a couple of different varieties if you can. This will yield the best overall flavor.
  • Deciding on the type of granulated sugar. When making the crisp topping, you can use any type of granulated sugar, but because brown sugar contains the most moisture, it works incredibly well in fruit crisp desserts.
