Easy Dairy-Free Apple Crisp

Jump to Recipe

You’re going to want to get some apples and make this dairy-free apple crisp STAT. It’s ridiculously good and also ridiculously easy to make.

We don’t need to talk about how long (short?) this apple crisp lasted in our home.

But if you have any hesitations about making it, I’m here to let you know that I ate it for dessert twice in one day and breakfast the next morning (sans ice cream, because there’s no coming back from a sugar-high that early in the morning).

When I asked my husband if he wanted to take the rest to share with his coworkers he looked at me like I was out of my mind.

Ingredients

Apple base

  • apples
  • maple syrup
  • ground cinnamon
  • fresh lemon juice

Crisp topping

  • old fashioned oats
  • all-purpose flour
  • granulated sugar – brown, cane sugar, coconut sugar, etc. (see helpful tips section)
  • dairy-free butter
  • ground cinnamon
  • salt

How to Make Dairy-Free Apple Crisp

STEP 1

Peel your apples and remove the core before cutting them lengthwise into slices. Add the sliced apples to a large bowl along with the maple syrup, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Mix until everything is evenly coated and then transfer to a greased 8×8 baking dish. Set aside.

STEP 2

Add all of the topping ingredients to a bowl and using your hands or a pastry cutter, crumble the mixture together until it resembles pea-sized crumbs.

STEP 3

Spread the topping evenly over the apples and bake until golden brown. Top with your favorite dairy-free vanilla ice cream and serve warm.

Please remember that recipes are just a starting point.

How can you make this dairy-free apple crisp using what you already have? Here are some ideas…

  • Make it gluten-free ➝ sub gluten-free 1:1 flour or oat flour
  • No dairy-free butter? ➝ use coconut oil or avocado oil instead

Helpful Tips For Making Dairy-Free Apple Crisp

BEST TYPES OF SUGAR FOR CRISPS

When making the crisp topping, you can use any type of granulated sugar as mentioned above, but because brown sugar contains the most moisture, it works incredibly well in fruit crisp desserts.

BEST APPLES TO USE

When choosing your apples, opt for a couple of different varieties if you can. This will yield the best overall flavor.
